This district is endowed with a large number of extraordinary historically important places and temples.

The District is rich in mineral deposits. Limestone of sedimentary origin has been found in Ariyalur and Sendurai Taluks. Jayamkondam in Udayarpalayam Taluk is rich in Lignite, Oil and Gas reserves.

Ariyalur district is often nick named as the ‘Mecca of the Geological Researchers’. Various types of fossils of wood, animal and plant species have been unearthed in the District. Dinosaur eggs have been discovered at Kallakurichi mines and Ninniyur.

Eight major Cement factories are located within the district due to the abundant deposits of limestone. The availability of Lignite at Jayankondam and nearby places is a bountiful gift of Mother Nature. Geologists consider the Fossils that are excavated as national assets.
